Guardian videos

The promotion videos I like are the Cee Lo Green video (video 6). I like this video as it is quite funny and

so attract the attention of people, some of which may not

particularly like the music. I like the video as it has a good

narrative of a boy growing into a man, still wanting to do the same thing. I also like the video as

it can appeal to people from teenagers to people in the

ir 20’s or 30’s, but not to anyone younger than that due to

the swearing in the lyrics. I like the way the video has been put together as well because the smoothness of each transition and pan, etc makes it look very professional and with a video as well made as this, people will most probably appreciate it more. The look of the whole video is good as it is

bright and has a lot of vivid colours and memorable text that is very hard to forget.

I also like the Radiohead-

Live in Praha (video 7). I like this video as it has been captured with cameras/ phones from the perspective of the audience which I think would relate well to people watching it as it shows what and where they might be when and if they go and see one of their concerts. I like the

video as well as it looks very misty and quite pale, almost like

the music and behind the performers, there are screens that show moving images (or short video clips) of the performers, either performing or re

cording something. (If it does show them recording som

ething, it would be the song that is being played).

Charts for Questionnaire

Looking at these results, I will try to make my music video open to people of 16 to 30. I will try to make my music video a narrative with some performance in it, depending on the genre however as some genres have a narrative, some just have random bits of video and imagery. I will make sure the music can be one that could be played in clubs, a dance track possibly. I will also try to make the music video available to watch online.

Questionniares

Magazine adverts

This poster has a very dark atmosphere, however the group and music (or the potential music shown by the band) brightens and livens it up slightly. This shows almost rebellious people in a group that looks like they play or perform late at night (seeing that there are many lights on in the buildings behind) and that they like to play loud and almost be antisocial (however music is for everyone else). the positioning of the band shows that they do not play on rooftops but play at our level, where we, the audience can go and see them almost face to face.

CD analysis

There are many different energetic lines and designs coming from the CD cover. It has very vivid colours and the energy relates to the style and the speed of drum and bass music.
There is slight humour in the top right text showing that this music is top. There are many volume/ speaker symbols with the volume up which shows that the music is loud and in your face all the time. On many drum and bass CD covers, there are interesting graphics showing the energy of the music.

Conventions of a Drum and Bass music video

The conventions of Drum and Bass music videos are:

Dark imagery
Fast changing shots
Close ups of artist/ performers
possible lip synching
possible eye contact with audience

Moodboard of the IMAGE of drum and bass

The conventions of my genre are having very vivid colours throughout, making every part stand out a lot. It is very electronic and in some ways, the visuals are electric, matching that of the music which has very sharp waveforms (drum kit sounds...). It is very clubby and has very clear text to get the message out of the artists, music and the genre, which is very loud.

Low Budget Music Videos

Schmerzkeller - Low Budget Music Video Production

Here, only very simple effects are used. Any effect that might look very cheap should not be used.
In a music video of this genre, a good effect to make it look more expensive is by using a black and white effect and even make it look LESS clear as a video shot by a cheap camera will make the footage, by itself, look quite cheap.
Adding effects that shake the screen will make the video correspond to the music being played.

Unreachable - Low Budget Music Video Production

A key thing is to never use strong, bold text, soften it down by using a misty effect or shake the text slightly.
Trying to keep the place and people you are filming as gloomy and as dark as possible is a very god way of keeping the footage look more expensive as a normal daylight video of people dancing or singing would be very normal and easy to do.
Using a slow motion effect will be good as it makes the video smoother and takes out shakes a lot as any shakes will look like slow, meaningful movements of the camera.
