Faithless

The band Faithless was made in 1995 with their single Salva Mea (Save Me). Jazz acted as a vocalist, whilst Bliss played the piano, violin, saxophone and bass guitar and made most of the electronic music. Pauline Taylor performs most of the lead vocals in the tracks. Their albums reached: 26- Reverence, 10- Sunay 8PM, 4- Outrospective, and 1- No Roots.

Song Change

We have changed our song to The Chemical Brothers: Galvanize. We changed because we did not like the lyrics in the last song and the way the lyrics were sung, were way too far from the sound that would come from your voice and so it would not have looked realistic.

Location research

Our group has come up with a few locations which would be a good place to film. The places are Portsmouth, East Wittering, Box Hill and London. I will be going to Portsmouth, East wittering and Box Hill to take some pictures and I will be filming in different places in those areas for the background of our music video. I will be going up to the top of the Spinnaker Tower to film the area of and around Portsmouth. Iwill also film some shots of the beach and certain places on the beach that will have strong contrasts, when filmed, throughout the content of the frame. I want to film this as it would look good in our music video and the places fit the genre of Drum and Bass as on many days, the weather can be quite dull, but everything can have a strong outline and this is very relavent to the genre.
The three images above have come from the internet to show the places where I will go to film and take pictures.
I feel these would fit our genre as it could show a journey from a place like london to a place like the coast. This would be like the journey you go on when you listen to a dance track like Galvanize.

Our video on the work with the green screen

Here, we filmed something quickly, with us infront of a green screen. The lighting on the green screen was not perfect and there were some large differences in tone, therefore the background was, in some places, quite good, while in other places, you could still slightly see the green screen. we played around with different background and ended up with this background. I feel that is not a perfect background for the genre of drum and bass.

Magazine advert practise on photoshop

Here, I decided to use the picture of me, looking like a drum and bass artist. I made sure that I was wearing only black and white clothes so that it would work very well with the drum and bass genre. I got an image of a cityscape at night to get the right, dark feel to it and changed it slightly on photoshop to be the right colour and shade. I then cut out different shapes that were in the cityscape picture to give a very strong, dark feel to it. I also got an image of a helicopter, which goes really wel with the genre. I played around with black and white circles and put a lense flare in the top left.

I really think that this is a strong image, showing who the artist is and the feel of the genre.
This fits in with drum and bass as it is just black and white and very tonal, like the strong beats and bas to the music.

Practise pictures for CD Cover/ Magazine advert

Here are some of the pictures my group took for the magazine advert and the CD cover. These are the main pictures that I really liked and thought were the best to go with the genre of drum and bass. I chose the top image of me in front of a bush for the photoshopped image for the magazine advert. I think these relate to drum and bass because our hair could be a good logo for faceless artists and the location is very man made, like the overall image of drum and bass.

Green Screen

Last lesson we used a green screen and recorded my group, not necessarily lip synching, but we recorded it so that we could play with different features of final cut and try to put different backgrounds where the green screen is. However, the lighting, I have found out, needs to be exactly the same throughout the green screen to cut it out evenly and completely.

Lyrics annotation (our chosen song)

(Don't hold back)
cuz you woke up in the morning with initiative to move,
so why make it harder

(Don't hold back)
If you think about it so many people do, be cool man, look smarter,

(Don't hold back)
and you shouldn't even care, about the losers in the air,
and their crooked stares,

(Don't hold back)
cuz there's a party over here, so you might aswell be here,
where the people care,

The world is holding back
the time has come to...

The world is holding back
the time has come to...

The world is holding back
the time has come to...

Galvanize,

(Don't hold back)
If you think about it too much you may stumble,
trip up fall on your face,

(Don't hold back)
You think it is time you get up fresh style
like a sit-up come on keep pace

(Don't hold back)
Put apprehension on the back burner,
let it sit, don't even get it lit,

(Don't hold back)
Get involved with the jam,
don't be a prick, hot chick

(Don't hold back)

Song Details

Our group has chosen the song: Sub Focus - Splash (Feat. Coco). The genre of this song is Drum and Bass. This song was chosen as the features fitted the set criteria. This song also had lyrics, which is rare in drum and bass music.

Roles

James: James will help film and make sure the frame and camera resembles the storyboard as closely as possible. He will be in charge of editing and will help gather props. He will be in charge of bringing My designs to photoshop.

Todd: Todd will be in charge of filming the music video and bringing the storyboards to life as much as possible, gathering props we may need and helping in the editing. He will also help create the album cover and the magazine advert in photoshop.

Jacob (me): I will be helping film and edit. I will be in charge of designing our album cover and magazine advert. I will be in charge of storyboarding and framing the sots. I will be in charge of the whereabouts of the location we should film.

Lauren: Lauren has agreed to perform in our music video (however, she does not do media).

Initial ideas

Our initial ideas were to have a lot of the video filmed at Box Hill with a performer/ singer called Lauren Goldsack. I hope to take some pictures or some filming of the coast, which will create a relaxed atmosphere when put in the music video.
